Oldie for Friday

Happy Friday Everyone and it's time again to link up with Erika on her Snappy Crafts blog where she invites us to share an old craft item .  As you see it doesn't have to be a card.  Just something we did a some ago.

I'm sharing a tapestry I made in the 1980's.  Because of the size I knew it would take a long time to do so  every time I got it out to work on  I kept a note of the time I'd spent stitching it.   The stitched area measures 44 inches x 20 inches and it took just over 120 hours to finish.

When we moved to our present home it fitted perfectly in the sitting room.  It hangs below a beam and has an old oak chest below which is slightly wider.

If you'd like to join in link to Erika's blog, leave her a comment and she'll visit you too.

Happy Crafting Everyone.

Hi Barb, that's lovely. Being a retired textiles teacher I very much appreciate the work that went into making that. I have a piece of embroidery which I did while I was still at school and it took me ages to do. It's nothing like the kind of stuff I have made since but I had it re mounted and still have it above my fireplace maybe sometime I will photograph it. Have a great day and happy crafting, Angela x

Wow Barb that's amazing and what a lot of man hours. I started a tapestry of Edinburgh castle shortly after we got married there, it's 20 years ago this weekend and guess what? It still isn't finished, in fact I think it is in the loft. Maybe your finished tapestry can inspire me to get it out and finish it?
Thanks for joining me in sharing an oldie this Friday, have a super weekend.

Hugs Erika. x

Oh My Goodness Barb, that is absolutely exquisite, you must be so proud of it. When I first glanced at it, I though it was a painting as it looks so intricate. You did really well to finish it in 120 hours, I think I'd still be at it today :) Have a lovey weekend.

Hi Barb, this is absolutely stunning, what a wonderful skill you have to be able to do this. It's a gorgeous scene, and as I think you live in an old sort of cottage style house I can just picture this on the wall. I love it!!, Kate x

Just beautiful. What a great idea to keep a record of how long it took you to finish it, wish I'd done that with some of my cross stitch! Have a great Friday. Cara s

What a fabulous piece of work, Barb. I so admire your dedication to complete it - 120 hours, wow! I started a tapestry that is a fraction of the size many months ago and I guess it's going to take many more months before it is finished :) Have a great weekend. Elizabeth xx

Wow Barb! What a beautiful tapestry. I love the design. It is amazing how time builds up when making stuff, and people who don't do it do not realise. I have made lace garters before and they take about the same amount of time. I made one for a friend and she gave me £10 for it!!! It cost me more than that just for the linen thread!! Never again. I only make them for special people now!!

Gorgeous Barb! Amazing, I'm not so good at big projects I set it aside and never seem to get back to it. Cards, washcloths and ornaments are more my speed. My hat is off to you for the perseverance to complete it and the wonderful craftsmanship.

What a beautiful tapestry Barb and so much work! Quite a while ago I made a cross stitch circle of birds, fruits and flowers with the chorus of the hymn "All Things Bright and Beautiful in the centre which took 18 months to finish although I wasn't working on it constantly and is the most complicated needlework project I have ever done. I'm afraid my needlework skills are not as good these days and I find it too much of a strain on the eyes in my old age ...lol. x
