Enjoying the Snow

First of all I'd like to give a very warm welcome to my new follower Anne.

Sorry I can't find you Anne but I wonder if you are the Anne I met at the Loobi Craft classes.  If so I hope we'll meet up again soon.

There's a bit of a story behind this card.  As there's just the two of us and a bachelor friend for Christmas I make it as easy for myself as I can.  Instead of baking I buy it all now - including mince pies.

The image began life as half the front of a Waitrose  mince pie box.  I love to recycle  so  after cutting up the box I selected the piece I wanted to use and trimmed to size.

I stuck a piece of double sided adhesive paper on top, peeled off the the back and covered the image with glitter.

I matted onto black card and tore along the bottom.  After adding the ribbon I mounted onto a long card (A6 folded the other way).  The centres of the snowflakes are dots of Cosmic Shimmer glue sprinkled with glitter.

Now the other side of the box had a different image on which became another card but I'll save that for another day.  As I bought several boxes of mince pies  I "batch baked" cards.

Now for my first public "Ooops" of the year.

For those of you who didn't find my mistake on the previous post - I made a masking mistake with the umbrella.   I've made it look as if  the handle of the umbrella is going down inside the front of her coat ....

I would like to enter my card into the following challenges:
Christmas Sparkles  #72 (Lots of Glitter)
Christmas Cards All Year Round - January  (add Snowflakes)
A Gem of a Challenge #184 (Anything Christmas)

I have had a go to see what you said about your last card. :D Such a fun mistake! :D There is really a strange fact in the depth of the umbrella's handle...But if you haven't tell us this fact, nobody would have seen it!!!

Terrific piece of recycling Barb. I love the jaunty angle of the bottom edge of the glittered up image and the embellishments.

Once you revealed your "oops" moment on the other card I had to go back and take a look and even though I now know it's there, it's a very minor error! But I honestly couldn't find it when I looked the card over, so you'll definitely get away with it.

What a fabulous upcycled mince pie box Barb! I LOVE it! I used to upcycle all the time, but rarely do it now (I should do it more though, it always gave me such a sense of satisfaction when I did). As for your 'blunder' down under here, I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it, but it is the sort of thing I do with masking, that' why I don't like doing it (I can't do the 'backwards' thinking of stamping what I want at the front first, my brain isn't wired to think that way!). Thank you so very much for all your support and kind words during a difficult year in 2016, let's hope 2017 is a better year for us all, with health and happiness all round! Have a great day my friend! Hazel xx

I love this recycled make of yours, Barb.
Like Hazel, I agree that there's a certain satisfaction to be gained from reusing things that would otherwise be thrown away.
Take care...

Hi Barb,
Well done on recycling and making a great card, love it, funny thing is I received a card after Christmas which had a similar image except it was long as a landscape rather than portrait. I plan to reuse it, we'll see eh?!
Had a chuckle re the masking mistake.... easily done.
Thanks for sharing your inspiration,

A gorgeous snowy card and you are as inventive as ever. I love all the glitter. I was thinking of doing something similar one day. I'm sure no-one would have noticed your masking 'oops' if you hadn't pointed it out! You were still a Playground Pick though, congratulations. x

It took me a minute or two to find your happy accident Barb..lol, but no mistakes here. What a clever make using this very pretty packaging, and the frosty finish with the glitter on top of the double sided adhesive layer looks great. I love the diagonal torn layer and the snowflakes and ribbon go beautifully. x

This is just brilliant, I do love packaging! It is a shame to throw it away sometimes, or recycle at least. I never noticed you mistake with the umbrella, just goes to show we are our own worst critics.
