Hessian flower

Good Morning to you all and thank you for your visit.

Yesterday I received the  Crayola Slick Stix that I ordered after being fascinated by how Kathy used them with great enthusiasm.  So off I went to have a play.

This is my first project onto a piece of acrylic paper.  I used three of the crayons to colour the paper then blended with a damp babywipe - as per Kathy's instructions.

Then I covered it with white gesso to knock back the colour and when dry added a little more blue and purple.  I did as Kathy often does and used the baby wipe through a stencil to lift off some of the colour.
However when I removed the stencil and saw that I'd not removed enough colour I decided to use a white Sharpie pen to draw swirls to try to highlight the lighter areas.

I have added a hessian flower that I bought a while ago from Poundland and stamped the Hobby Arts sentiment underneath.

My card looked top heavy so I cut off the front, trimmed it down and added the twine then mounted my topper onto an A6 card.

I'll be popping this down the road to a friend later on today in with a box of cards I've made for her fund raising event on Saturday which is for our local Hospice.

What a brilliant make - I love how differently projects turn out despite starting from the same point ... in this case Crayola Slick Stix. However ... I normally gesso my regular smooth card with gesso before I start rather than after - so I MIGHT have to steal your idea of gesso-ing through the stencil - cheers!

Hi Barb...haven't heard of these crayons but you seem to have done a good job with them.I think the white highlights really do make the areas stand out and I like the way you have linked the hessian flower with your wrap at the bottom. Hope your friend raises lots of money for a very good cause. xx

Beautiful background (TFS the link - I'll check it out). The rough texture of the burlap flower looks so good against the smooth marbled background. Isn't it such fun to do new techniques? You did splendid with this one! TFS & Hugs
