"R for Ruby Red and Recycling"

Good Morning and it's a very exciting one for me,

I am absolutely delighted to be Mrs. A's Guest Designer on her Butterfly Challenge blog where the theme this time is - R for Ruby Red/Recycle

I used an MDF plaque for this one.  First I used some texture paste through a stencil then added various bits and pieces to give more texture.

The two flowers are carpet underlay diecut with a Bigz die.  I added various embossed and die cut pieces, cardboard, string and a few brads.

After painting on two coats of black Gesso I mixed acrylic paint to get the colour I wanted then added a little Inca gold to finish.

For this I used  a Tim Holtz die to cut the corner of some white linen card which was recycled from the back of a shop bought Christmas card then stuck it onto a ruby red A6 card.

The butterfly was cut with a Bigz die from a piece of cardboard box.  As the box was red with a small area of pattern  I was able to die cut the butterfly to include some pattern on it's body.

I coloured a piece of copier paper with a black marker pen to make a paper bead for the butterfly's body and  made the antennae with gold coloured craft wire.

I put some Glossy Accents on the butterfly wings, added a Craft Creations sentiment and finished with a few dots of liquid pearls to fill in gaps and add balance to the design.

I do hope you will join in with the challenge and look forward to seeing what you make.

Great upcycling - I think that's a better term for these because it implies an improvement on the original use, and both of these are gorgeous! Congrats on being guest designer

Hi Barb, what a great plaque, loving the colour and texture.
The card is super too. The idea of only using part of a die works so well with the red behind, the butterfly is great too, great shine on it.

Hugs Erika.

I also love Bigz dies because with them you can cut thick materials...this is a great resource for recyling items!! :D

Many congratulation Barb on your GD spot. I love your MDF plaque with it's rich, red colour. You've done an excellent job adding the layers and textures, and only you would think of die cutting carpet underlay. You are definitely the queen of recycling! I love your card too and the pattern on the butterfly if fabulous. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I wish you lots of happy crafting :) X

Oh dear, thought I'd commented on these pretties earlier, but not seeing it. Will try again! The texture and bold colors with the nifty embossing items on #1 is just fantastic. What an art piece you have created. Very impressive indeed. Love the cutwork flowers on #2 with the white over red, and the pattern on the butterfly is really a standout too. TFS & Hugs. Also congrats on your GD spot. Mrs A knows how to pick 'em.
